2011 Myrtle Beach Marathon

J.T. (above) is on the front row on the left in a blue tank top

J.T. finished this marathon with a new personal record 3 hours, 9 minutes, 12 seconds. The happy details: he finished well among the crowd of 1500 runners and he was 4th out of 200 in his age group. This time qualifies him to run in the New York City Marathon and to repeat his 2006 running of the Boston Marathon (in April 2012).

This trip with friends has become an annual tradition. We have warm memories of these trips, as well as our Fall 2010 trip to Greece with both of the ladies in yellow below (and their spouses). Notice that Steve (below) who has white hair and a beard looks quite a bit like the fisherman in the painting behind him. Mr. Gorton?

J.T.'s Impact Greensboro Wrap-Up Celebration

Linwood Carver (left) and J.T. (right) at the final dinner of their year-long leadership program.

According to the group's website, "IMPACT Greensboro is a unique leadership program and reflects a redesign of the Mosaic project, originally launched in 2005 to pair people of diverse backgrounds to spend quality time together and develop friendships. The premise was that friendships would 'expedite the building of trust between diverse people, foster an inclusive culture, create new understandings, and break down barriers that block connectivity'. "

The objectives identified for IMPACT
Greensboro are to:

  • Forge collective ways to address and impact key community interests and concerns;
  • Provide participants with a deeper understanding of core community issues and the importance that relationships play in effectively addressing issues.
  • Create an ongoing dialog on community issues and an ongoing method for interaction.
  • Create a vibrant network of community “change agents” who are equipped to identify and tackle community issues
J.T.'s work generously provided a day per month for him to attend the general sessions, as well as its Economic Issues subcommittee.

JT's 38th Birthday Events

JT went with his buddy Roger, Bruce B and other running friends to the Carolina Theater for this premiere showing of the movie about Charlie Engle's running expedition across the Sahara Desert to raise attention and funds for clean drinking water. The film and their effort were extraordinary, film was narrated by Matt Damon. Ironically a storm had knocked out the theater's air conditioning that afternoon!

For JT's birthday we went as a couple to this downtown restaurant in a refurbished store ... very pleasant!
